ABC aims for diversity in action, as well as in words
The New York Times
It seems like a parody put together by a coalition of the activist groups that have dogged television networks for years about their halfhearted (or less) commitment to presenting a range of racial and ethnic groups among their series. On Wednesdays, a black family comedy; on Fridays, a Hispanic family comedy; in midseason, an Asian family comedy; on Thursdays, an anticipated new drama starring a standout black actress; and all the way through, an assortment of show creators just as diverse as the casts.

This is ABC's actual new-season plan, and it is not one of those developments that seem to sweep over television all at the same time.

Turning point for Asian actors on soap operas
Entertainment Weekly
In a recent episode of "General Hospital," Lucas and Brad's post-coital "Knot's Landing" binge-watch was interrupted by news of Maxie and Lulu's kidnapping. For some viewers, the big news might have been the sight of two men in bed together, as gay couples are still a rarity in daytime soap operas. For others, the even bigger news may be that Brad is played by Asian actor Parry Shen. Brad being Asian and, for that matter, gay, are only parts of who he is, not his defining traits.
