NDA Safety Committee begins work on Demolition Safety Talks upgrade
NDA
With the successful completion the upgrading of the NDA's Demolition Safety Manual, the bible of safe work practice for the demolition industry around the world, the Association's Safety Committee has begun work to incorporate many of the improvements contained in the Safety Manual in the NDA's Demolition Safety Talks. There are 52 Safety Talks currently available in the existing program. The Safety Committee will be evaluating the content of each of these talks and adding additional tool box safety training material to the program, all based on the latest Demolition Safety Manual edition. Look for new Demolition Safety Talks in an easy-to-use online format later this year.

NDA offers leadership training session at annual convention
Construction & Demolition Recycling
The National Demolition Association will be offering a Leadership Development Program during the association's annual convention in Las Vegas. The session will be held Feb. 23 and will be presented by FMI, a provider of management consulting services to the engineering and construction industries based in Raleigh, N.C. The program is limited to 30 attendees.

South Carolina county takes 1st step to repeal C&D flow control

South Carolina's Horry County Council passed a first reading of an ordinance that would repeal the construction and demolition portion of its flow control ordinance. According to a report in Sun News, the ordinance will take three readings to pass.

In reversal, quake researchers to turn over list of concrete buildings
Los Angeles Times
In a reversal, University of California researchers will give Los Angeles officials the addresses of about 1,500 old concrete buildings that are potentially at risk of collapse during a major earthquake. The move is significant because it will provide the city with a starting point in its effort to identify concrete buildings most likely to fail in a quake and take steps to strengthen the structures.

South Carolina county repeals C&D flow control

South Carolina's Horry County Council has passed an ordinance repealing the construction and demolition portion of its flow control ordinance. The repeal passed in three readings, with the final reading passing by a vote of 7-4, according to local reports.
