A leading construction industry economist, Dr. Anirban Basu, is the keynote speaker at the National Demolition Association's 39th Annual Convention in the historic city of San Antonio March 10-13. Demolition begins on tornado-ravaged hospital in Joplin, Mo.

The battered St. John's Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo., saw its first wrecking ball Jan. 29 — a small step in a demolition process that will eventually bring down the tornado-ravaged buildings on the site and leave the land ready for rebuilding. Associated General Contractors of America: US construction employment increases

Construction employment in the United States increased in 148 out of 337 metropolitan areas between December 2010 and December 2011, decreased in 128 and stayed level in 61, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. The construction employment increases were likely fueled by a 4.3 percent increase in total construction spending between December 2010 and December 2011, driven largely by growing private sector demand, association officials noted. Demolition to begin on collapsed area of Ohio casino

Demolition of a floor that collapsed at a Cincinnati casino site injuring more than a dozen workers is expected to begin. Rock Gaming said in a statement that the city approved demolition of the section that collapsed Jan. 27 while workers were pouring concrete. Genie used the American Rental Association tradeshow in Las Vegas, to take the wraps of its latest addition to its telehandler product line, the 25,000 pound Tier 4 Interim compliant GTH-844B, which will replace the existing GHT-844 when it enters full production at the end of 2012.
