Cruise the Cumberland at the NDA's 42nd Annual Convention in Nashville

Back in 2006 one of the most exciting parts of the NDA’s Annual Convention was the cruise down Tennessee’s historic Cumberland River from the Gaylord Opryland Resort to downtown Nashville on Sunday evening. The NDA’s 42nd Annual Convention, March 21-24, 2015 will repeat this fun-filled trip. The Opening Night Cocktail Reception will be on Gaylord’s General Jackson, a paddle wheeled steamboat. Live country music, a terrific buffet with Southern specialties, and a magnificent view of the growing city of Nashville will all be part of Sunday evening’s kick-off event on March 22, 2015. Make a note now to be part of the NDA’s 42nd Annual Convention in Nashville next year.

NDA Board to review 2014/15 budget in Vancouver
NDA
One of the many items to be discussed the upcoming NDA Board of Directors’ Meeting at the Pan Pacific Hotel on Vancouver’s historic waterfront on Saturday, June 7, will a review of the proposed 2014/15 fiscal year for the Association. Included in next year’s budget will be funding for the NDA’s 42nd Annual Convention at the Gaylord Opryland resort in Nashville, Tenn., March 21-24, 2015; the expansion of the Association’s Education Initiative; and the Board’s Disaster Response Committee’s program to provide the first response community in the U.S. and Canada with information about the capabilities that a modern demolition contractor can bring to bear at a man-made or natural disaster site. Bertha expected to resume digging in March 2015

Bertha, the giant tunneling machine stuck underground since December along Seattle's waterfront, will resume digging by the end of next March, according to a schedule released by Seattle Tunnel Partners.

Construction work picks up nationally
The Press-Enterprise
The Associated General Contractors of America reported that the number of jobs in the sector have increased across the country. Construction companies added jobs in 38 of the 50 states on a year-over-year basis, and no state has added more than California in 2014. Some 37,000 jobs have been added statewide in the first three months of the year.

Kingdom Tower: Construction of the world's tallest building to begin in Saudi Arabia

Construction of what will become the next world's tallest building is set to begin in Saudi Arabia. Once finished, the Kingdom Tower will stand a staggering 3,280 feet high — four times taller than The Shard and over 500 feet taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the current record holder.

Builders and remodelers expect growth despite adjusted forecasts

Projections are down, but hopes are up. That in a nutshell is the assessment of the current state of the home building and remodeling industries as the books close on the first quarter of 2014. Unusually harsh and prolonged winter weather in much of the country from January to March, along with economic instability, dampened the momentum that the home construction and remodeling industries built up during the second half of 2013. Nonetheless, the arrival of spring has brought signs of new business and renewed optimism that 2014 will yet turn out well.
