Hall at UC Berkelely demolished, clearing space for LEED-certified replacement

Demolition crews began tearing down Campbell Hall May 10 to make way for a new LEED-certified facility — also to be known as Campbell Hall — for UC Berkeley's astronomy and physics departments. Fitted with rotational hydraulic claw-like shears, the giant excavator will dismantle Campbell's six-story concrete and steel structure floor-by-floor down to ground level, before excavating the building’s single below-ground floor. Reclaim Detroit turns home deconstruction into new jobs

Reclaim Detroit is using deconstruction as a new way to help tackle Detroit's blight problem, a solution that is also helping create jobs in the Motor City. Reclaim Detroit launched out of the WARM Training Center last year focusing on deconstructing blighted buildings. So far the nonprofit and its 18 employees have deconstructed three houses and has recently started on its four home. More

MB America, Reno, Nev., a manufacturer of crushing attachments, with thousands of machines operating on excavators around the world has introduced two skid-steer loader mounted crushers, the MB-L 160 and MB-L 200, which the company says will allow the users of skid-steers to crush material with extreme efficiency. It is no surprise that an eclectic and progressive city like San Francisco would be home to the smartest green building in the world. The newly constructed San Francisco Public Utility Commission, which provides retail drinking water, wastewater, and green hydroelectric and solar power services to Bay Area municipalities, has raised the bar quite high for energy efficiency and sustainability. The building, which is the third-largest municipal utility in California, uses 55 percent less energy and consumes 32 percent less electrical demand than the ASHRAE baseline standard. More
