New Orleans mayor's historic preservation plan would make demolition easier in some neighborhoods

The city of New Orleans is considering an expansion of its historic preservation districts that could roughly double the area subject to strict regulations. But those hoping for stricter standards on demolitions, exterior renovations and new construction face a formidable opponent. Mayor Mitch Landrieu not only opposes expanding the Historic District Landmark Commission's remit to regulate building and renovations, his vision for the city's preservation regime would actually shrink the area where you are required to seek special permission before demolishing structures.

Salvaged steel from Bay Bridge demolition to be used for public art
KGO-TV
Salvaged steel from the old eastern span of the Bay Bridge will be recycled into public art and history projects throughout California under a program supervised by the Oakland Museum of California, museum officials announced June 3. The Bay Bridge Steel Program will distribute the steel from the bridge's demolition to artists proposing projects that celebrate the bridge and its history.

Demolition crew uses explosives to bring down grandstand at Hollywood Park racetrack
KTLA-TV
A demolition crew May 31 used explosives to bring down the grandstand at the shuttered Hollywood Park racetrack in Inglewood, California. A series of planned detonations ripped through the structure at 5:59 a.m., resulting in a collapse that began at the south end of the structure and continued through the north end.

Atlanta boosts funding to demolish blight

The city of Atlanta plans a big jump in its budget to demolish blighted properties. The jump will still leave a backlog — but the city says it signals a new effort on a major problem. Mayor Kasim Reed's proposed budget hikes demolition spending by 50 percent in fiscal year 2016.

The 873 screener is designed to work after a primary crusher or on its own as a frontline screening machine, the company says. Terex Finlay notes that the highly versatile and adaptable machine is suitable for working in quarrying, mining, construction and demolition debris, topsoil, recycling, sand, gravel, coal and aggregate applications.
