Benefits of NDA Membership Come Alive Through Active Involvement
NDA
When my brothers Brian and Nick and I took over as co-owners of Hayden Wrecking in Washington Park, IL, we thought the time was right to get more out of our company's long-time membership in the National Demolition Association (NDA). Our grandfather, William Hayden, founded the business in 1945 after returning home from World War II. Our father, Ron, understood the value of partnering with other professionals in the demolition industry and when the NDA was established in 1973, Hayden Wrecking became a founding member.

By Jessica Taylor
An important change in the American workplace is occurring — and it could affect you and your business. A proposed new rule regarding overtime pay would mean increased paychecks for up to 5 million workers, according to the Obama administration. A proposed adjustment to the Fair Labor Standards Act — establishing the 40-hour workweek and rules for working overtime — would raise the salary threshold for overtime for the first time since 1975.

Top-down demolition method removes need for scaffolding
Engineering News-Record
When seen from above, it looks like a giant orange spider perched on top of a skyscraper. But Italy-based Despe's TopDownWay demolition system is a method that takes down towers faster — and sometimes cheaper — than regular demolition techniques. "You normally have two options to demolish buildings: implosion or fully encase the building in scaffolding," says Stefano Panseri, CEO of Despe. "We have invented a self-descending demolition system that can support itself on the existing columns of the building."

Watch the slow demolition of Candlestick Park
KQED-TV
At first it seemed as though Candlestick Park wasn’t really going anywhere. There was the last 49ers game, a Legends of Candlestick Game and, finally, the Paul McCartney concert. But now, with one last section of the windy old monstrosity left standing, it feels very real.

Cracking down on blight
The San Diego Union-Tribune
Imperial Beach, California — Officers in Imperial Beach’s code enforcement division take their job seriously. They have to. Without their efforts, resident quality of life would deteriorate, they say, and safety issues in neighborhoods would remain unresolved. Mostly the department handles complaints of city code violations regarding blighted homes and illegally operating businesses. For the latter, illegal advertising is the biggest issue.

'Up' house in Seattle now facing demolition
HousingWire
A truly unique Seattle-area home that boasts neighbors like L.A. Fitness and Trader Joe’s is on the verge of being torn down, a sad end to a tale that many likened to a real-life "Up."
