The skyline in part of Kent, England, has been altered forever after the tallest concrete structure to be demolished in the UK was blown up.
Experts detonated the 801-foot chimney of the defunct Grain A Power Station on Sept. 7, creating some 40,000 tonnes of concrete rubble and stacks of dust and smoke.

Michigan’s workplace safety agency plans to step up unannounced inspections of demolition sites around the state to ensure workers are protected against exposure to asbestos and other hazards.
The Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration acknowledged that the one-year initiative was prompted in part by a Free Press investigation, which found that while blight removal in Michigan is at historic highs and record numbers of contractors are getting into the business, the agency rarely gets tough with employers who exposed their workers to asbestos, a known carcinogen.

When the facade of the blighted home at 800 Laurel Boulevard in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, started to crumble in early August, city officials decided to close off the alley next to it and green light a demolition project.
"This will be an emergency demolition. The building will be demolished by AMC Enterprises at a cost of about $6,000. It probably will be coming down this week," City Administrator Thomas A. Palamar said Sept. 6 at a meeting of the Pottsville Blight and Nuisance Task Force.
