Reed Construction Data    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Nonresidential building construction spending fell 1.4 percent in July, matching the June drop. Institutional spending increased marginally but is likely to show little if any expansion for the rest of the year. Developer financed construction spending fell 3.5 percent and manufacturing spending dropped nearly 5 percent. A further small decline is expected for the rest of the year before recovery begins. Deep state and local government budget cuts will prevent a sustained turnabout in institutional spending until well into 2011. Commercial construction spending will recover sooner. More
