National Demolition Association president Scott Knightly is urging members to attend the 2018 World Demolition Summit as the countdown to the industry’s premier networking event enters its final few weeks.

Four buildings were declared "dangerous" by the Fire Marshal's office and received sentences from the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Three homes were given full or partial demolition sentences, while an apartment complex was put on hold. All four buildings had over 20 code violations apiece.

Recent policies pertaining to scrap imports into China are making exporting some postconsumer recyclables increasingly difficult. Material recovery facility (MRF) operators are trying to find new technologies or processes to help them meet China’s stricter quality requirements. This situation and others, such as labor shortages, have helped to increase MRF operators’ interest in robotic sorting systems, which claim to achieve highly pure recyclables at higher processing rates than hand sorting.

By the time the Bradley Center is completely raised to the ground next year, it will have been almost a year since the building’s deconstruction began.
Demolition crews this month will start taking apart the 30-year-old structure piece-by-piece, a process that will last until early summer 2019, said Mike Abrams, senior director of Denver, Colo.-based sports consulting firm CAA Icon.

Steelmakers in North America are enjoying healthy industry conditions, which helped keep ferrous scrap prices relatively strong and stable throughout the first eight months of 2018 despite a slight dip in August.
Demolition contractors who want those prices to stay in their current range ($330 to $400 per ton paid by the mill) may need to look at global trading patterns to determine whether their expectations can be met through the end of the year.
