National Demolition Association is excited to announce our new Safety App! The app will be available for download with any Apple product and will be released at Demolition 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each company has the opportunity to add up to five employee user profiles to the app. NDA will pull your user information from the Primary and Affiliate contacts in your membership profile. To add or edit Affiliate contacts in your profile, follow the steps below by Dec. 2:
1. Log into the NDA website with your username and password. If you've forgotten your login, click the orange "Member Login" button at the top right hand corner of the webpage. This will direct you to a link where you can reset your login information.
2. Once you're logged in, click the "My Associates" tab under the "Points of Contact" menu on the left hand side. Here, you have the ability to add a new Affiliate contact or review/modify an existing one. Please be sure to add correct email addresses and information to your Affiliate contacts.

Detroit Free Press
One month before the Detroit Land Bank Authority released an audit detailing an improper billing scheme involving some demolition contractors, Timothy Drakeford signed an affidavit saying he was directed by Aradondo Haskins, a former Detroit Building Authority employee, to adjust his demolition prices.
The Free Press obtained the affidavit and related emails recently through a Freedom of Information Act request. The records shed new light on aspects of the city’s demolition program, which is under federal investigation, and its apparent bidding practices.

Container lines struggling against overcapacity got a glimmer of hope that overcapacity could be curbed with the announcement that container ship demolition has hit an all-time high, according to shipowner association Baltic and International Maritime Council.
As overcapacity continues to claim casualties and force industry consolidation, shipowners are scrapping younger and younger vessels. Diana Containerships on Nov. 3 announced it was scrapping a 10-year-old vessel, one of the youngest ever. Such moves may put some shine to projections that container shipping overcapacity will worsen considerably, with supply outpacing demand some 8.2 percent to 13.8 percent by 2020, according to one estimate.

Portland's demolition ban on homes built in or before 1916 went into effect on Nov. 1, as reported by Portland Business Journal. This is expected to divert about 8 million pounds of material from landfills per year and affect about 30 percent of homes that would be demolished. A study from the Northwest Economic Research Center estimates the policy could create 30-50 jobs and up to $1.5 million in local economic activity. The city may extend these requirements to homes built before 1940 by 2019.

The construction industry added 11,000 jobs in October, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Nov. 4. October's total construction employment of 6,679,000 marked the highest level since December 2008. Within the industry, the residential sector added 4,500 jobs last month, while the nonresidential sector added 6,700 positions, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.

The University of Minnesota will fight a lawsuit that would prevent it from demolishing the Electric Steel Elevators near TCF Bank Stadium.
A group of preservationists filed a lawsuit against the University of Minnesota recently, a week after the University’s Board of Regents voted to demolish the 115-year old grain elevators on campus property to make room for the relocation of a recreational sports bubble.

The Dodge Momentum Index grew 4.1 percent in October to 133.6 from its revised September reading of 128.3. The Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year. October’s gain nearly reversed the loss in September, and returns the Momentum Index to the rising trend that began earlier in the year.
