National Demolition Association Convention and Expo Expecting Record Attendance

With the demolition industry on the rebound and the city of Nashville as the setting for its annual Convention and Expo, the National Demolition Association (NDA) is predicting DEMOLITION 2015 to be one of the most well-attended events in the association’s history. Caltrans delays Bay Bridge demolition by 3 months

The next phase to tear down the old Bay Bridge has been postponed for three months. Caltrans said Nov. 17 that the deadline to submit and open bids for the second of three big contracts on the $271 million demolition job has been pushed back from November to February. Four potential bidders told Caltrans they needed more time to study the complicated job of tearing down the deck, support beams and steel trusses and upper piers on most of the bridge.

Shortage of skilled laborers hitting construction industry

Court orders demolition of derelict, bank-owned Michigan home left on the verge of collapse

Officials have discovered another problematic house owned by an out-of-state company in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan. Township officials discovered that the home at 210 S. Mansfield St. is "in imminent danger of collapse." During an investigation of the property, building inspectors found a rotting floor, missing floor joists and the home off its foundation blocks.

Plainfield, Illinois, OKs demolition ordinance, but seeks to preserve history

With a goal of preserving its storied history while ensuring residents' dealings with the village avoid becoming too cumbersome, Plainfield, Illinois’ Village Board voted Nov. 17 to change the town's demolition ordinance. The new ordinance seeks to simplify the demolition process for property owners while making sure that historically significant buildings don't get prematurely knocked down, according to a presentation by village planner Michael Garrigan.
