A consultant tapped by the state to help Detroit with its blight demolition program refused to attend meetings where city officials and handpicked companies agreed to a contract price for a massive project before others could submit bids.
Under fire for rising demolition costs and the invitation-only meeting with contractors, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has said repeatedly that the state had no problem with the process to hire contractors and that state officials were at the meetings in June 2014.

Both Missouri and Arkansas expressed concerns that their states will not be able to provide the required matching funds in order to receive federal highway money as laid out in the surface transportation bill, "Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act," or FAST Act, signed into law on Dec. 4. Other states, including Tennessee and Rhode Island, warned that the increased federal funds will still not be sufficient to cover all of their transportation revenue needs.

The sweeping climate agreement reached in Paris over the weekend will last beyond the Obama administration, the White House predicted Dec. 14.

Lower metals prices may be one reason why the demolition of a grain elevator complex in Carson City, Michigan, is taking longer than expected.
According to an online report by the Greenville, Michigan-based Daily News, portions of the former Kellogg Elevator Company complex remain standing even though the city council of Carson City hired a demolition contractor in late 2013.

The city of Muncie, Indiana and a local demolition contractor are battling over the unpaid bill for demolition of an eyesore.
Shroyer Brothers, an excavating and demolition company, told The Star Press the city has refused to release more than $20,000 owed to them for razing the former Budget Inn on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The city pursued and won demolition of the building, which is owned by a family of investors from New Jersey.
