The Affordable Care Act Series – Session 1

Largest staffing firms gain market share
Staffing Industry Analysts
The largest staffing firms have captured a bigger piece of the U.S. staffing market over the years, according to an analysis of data in lists of largest staffing firms produced by Staffing Industry Analysts. Market share of the 15 largest staffing firms increased by an average of 2.3 percent points per year over based on revenue growth from 2007 and 2011. The five largest staffing firms alone increased their market share by an average of 1.3 percentage points a year during the same period.

The 'path' to filling empty jobs

Long-awaited changes to U.S. immigration laws are within reach now that the Senate has constructed the framework for a bipartisan immigration reform plan and President Obama has vocalized his intentions to fix the broken system as soon as possible. U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue said in a statement that Obama's recent Las Vegas speech was a step in the right direction. "We were hopeful that the president's proposal would recognize the importance of temporary worker programs, allowing employers to fill vacancies when U.S. workers are not available, as the Senate framework provides," said Donohue.

Workplace cultural diversity: Then and now

Cultural diversity initiatives have been on the increase for almost a decade. In fact, such initiatives were in 76 percent of businesses in 2005, according to the Society for Human Resource Management. The United States Department of Labor estimates that 85 percent of new entrants into the 2013 labor market will be women, minorities and immigrants. Companies hire according to metrics intended to make sure the labor force is proportional to the cultural makeup of its customers and the area in which the company is located and does business. Morale is increased, there is a reduction in skills shortages, and customer service improves with cultural diversity.
