US temp jobs total climbs in April
Staffing Industry Analysts
U.S. temporary help services jobs rose by 30,800 in April, continuing an upward trend that began in October, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The temp penetration rate was 1.97 percent in April compared to 1.95 percent in the previous month. On a year-over-year basis, temporary jobs were up 184,200 in April. In addition, the previously released March temp job number was revised upward by 9,300 for a gain in March of 20,300 temp jobs.

Employment Index in US increases on jump in temporary hiring
Bloomberg
A measure of job prospects in the U.S. rose in April, indicating the world's largest economy will continue to create jobs. The Conference Board's Employment Trends Index increased 0.1 percent to 111.7 from the prior month's revised reading of 111.6, the New York-based private research group said today. The measure rose 3.8 percent from April 2012.

Canada's shift to a nation of temporary workers

It's not just a perception: Temporary work really is growing at a faster pace than permanent positions. The number of temporary workers in Canada hit a record two million last year, according to Statistics Canada. That amounts to 13.6 percent of the workforce compared with 11.3 percent in 1997, when such record-keeping began.
