Obama plan seeks employer tax breaks

President Barack Obama outlined a $447 billion American Jobs Act that would cut payroll taxes paid by businesses and offer tax incentives for firms to hire new workers. In a research note, analyst Jeffrey M. Silber of BMO Capital Markets reported the proposal could help staffing firms if approved by Congress. More

College recruiting award-winner Ernst & Young is, like PwC, showing signs of better times. It's hiring about 9,000 students, including 5,200 from U.S. campuses, in the 2012 fiscal year, which began July 1, 2011. Those pre-recession levels cover the U.S., Canada, Israel, Mexico and Central and South America. It also will use 3,900 interns and double its MBA hiring. More

Individuals who live or work in Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Essex, Greene, Montgomery, Nassau, Orange, Otsego, Putnam, Rensselaer, Rockland, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster, Warren, Washington and Westchester counties, who have become unemployed as a direct result of Hurricane Irene, may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance relief. Tax relief also is available for certain individuals. More
