ASA: Staffing employment sees best Q2 in 8 years
Staffing Industry Analysts
U.S. staffing companies employed an average of 3.15 million temporary and contract workers per week in the second quarter of 2014, up 5.6 percent from the second quarter of 2013, according to data released by the American Staffing Association. Average weekly employment in the second quarter was higher than in any second quarter since 2006, when it was 3.18 million, according to the ASA.

Social recruiting is gaining popularity and people are also visiting social networking channels in search of jobs. According to Staffing Industry Analysts research, social recruiting in the staffing industry may not match the significance of social networks like Facebook in terms of placements. Only 2.6 percent of the people accepted that they used Facebook, and even lesser, 0.5 percent mentioned it to be Twitter.

The big three social networking sites used to source and attract talent are LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. US job openings stay near 13-year high; hiring up

The number of US job openings remained near the highest level in 13 years in July, and companies also stepped up hiring that month to the fastest pace in nearly seven years, two signs the job market is slowly healing. The tally of available jobs ticked down 2,000 to 4.673 million in July, from 4.675 million in June, the Labor Department said Tuesday. June’s figure was the highest since February 2001. The drop was led by a decline in government job postings. Businesses actually advertised slightly more jobs.

Survey: Majority of workers don't aspire to leadership roles

Most American workers are not aiming for the corner office, according to a new CareerBuilder survey. Approximately one third (34 percent) of workers aspire to leadership positions, with only 7 percent aiming for senior or C-level management. By an 11 percentage point margin, men (40 percent) are more likely than women (29 percent) to desire a leadership role.
