Between December 2007 and June 2009, when the United States went through its longest, and by most measures, worst economic recession since the Great Depression, between 8 or 9 million jobs were lost in this country, depending on whose numbers you use. And older, more experienced workers took a disproportionate hit. That may be changing though.

Staffing price index jumps in August
Staffing Industry Analysts
The U.S. producer price index for employment services posted its highest year-over-year growth so far this year. The index jumped 2.3 percent on a year-over-year basis to a reading of 129.3, according to data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Women outpace men in regaining jobs lost in the recession

New jobless numbers appear to support the theory that the U.S. recession is ending earlier for women than men. American women are now employed in the same numbers, about 68 million, as they were when the Great Recession began in December 2007, The Associated Press reports. Men, on the other hand, are still about 2.1 million jobs short of the 78.3 million who were employed in 2007.
