NY state economy adds over 102,000 jobs in 2012

In 2012, New York state's economy added 102,700 private sector jobs, the State Department of Labor has reported. This year-to-date increase in the job count contributed to the state's recovery of 348,000 private sector jobs since November 2009. New York state has regained all of the private sector jobs it lost during the state's recession. Only four other states have regained all of the private sector jobs lost in the recession. More

The State Labor Department has released local area unemployment rates for July 2012. Over the past year, the state had an increase in the labor force as more New Yorkers gained confidence in the economy. The percentage of job seekers re-entering the labor force, or entering the labor force for the first time, increased 9.8 percent from July 2011 to July 2012. By comparison, the nation showed a 0.4 percent increase during the same period. More

The nation's shaky job outlook isn't deterring some retailers from hiring more holiday workers this year. Kohl's Department Stores and Wal-Mart are among the 36 percent of retailers that plan to take on more temporary help to handle the holiday rush, according to a seasonal staffing survey by Philadelphia consulting firm Hay Group. IRS notice gives employers clarity on definition of 'full-time'
