Resume fakery is rampant and global, can cause myriad problems for employers

The problem of resume fraud is a perennial headache for HR, and as fresh as the latest headlines. Last month, it was the turn of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to suffer a high-profile embarrassment when Vice President of Communications David Tovar resigned, reportedly because when he was in line for a promotion, the company discovered he had not actually obtained a bachelor's degree as he had claimed on his resume. If reports are correct, Wal-Mart certainly has plenty of company.

Do you make this common hiring mistake?

Most interviewers consider the interview to be a simple, one-step process that leads directly to the hire/don't hire decision. This misperception is largely the reason why a Michigan State University study found: "The interview, when used alone, is on average only about 8 percent more effective than flipping a coin." In order to make better hiring decisions, the interview needs to be processed in two distinct steps. The first is to gather information. The second is to evaluate the information. Most of the time, however, interviewers combine these two processes into one.

Kelly to cut headcount, close branches in restructuring plan
Staffing Industry Analysts
Kelly Services Inc. (NASD: KELYA) announced a management simplification restructuring plan to close approximately 50 US branches and cut global headcount by 100 permanent positions, including several leadership positions, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Kelly is the fifth-largest US staffing firm and seventh-largest global staffing firm.
