Hundreds of PIA members are getting ready to converge on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., March 26-27, for the 2014 PIA Federal Legislative Summit. The annual event is a gathering of PIA members from around the country who come together to meet with their members of Congress.

Cover Oregon is the nation's most spectacular ObamaCare health insurance exchange failure. PIA Oregon/Idaho sent a letter to the Oregon Legislature in February volunteering to help fix the exchange.

Federal investigation demand for Cover Oregon
Cover Oregon is the nation's biggest Affordable Care Act health insurance exchange failure. It was supposed to start enrolling people in October of last year and to date the exchange still is not working.

A proposed study on insurance and systemic risk
Is insurance a risk to the U.S. economic system? Insurance says no. Others say yes. Now U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Financial Research wants to know and is proposing a study to once and for all if insurance offers financial risk similar to that of banks and other financial institutions.

Details: House flood insurance compromise
The Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2013 is an alternative to a Biggert-Waters Act reforming bill passed by the U.S. Senate. It passed the House with a vote of 306 to 91. There were 34 representatives who didn't vote.

Winter storm losses and preparedness
Aon Benfield Group said the severe winter weather experienced around the globe in February cost insurers over $1 billion. The Aon report is its monthly global catastrophe report, Impact Forecasting.

Winter weather leads to costly insurance losses

House passes flood insurance compromise

PIA National is pleased that some of the mitigation provisions we have advocated in recent weeks were included in the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2013! It passed the House with a vote of 306 to 91.

TRIA: Demand for coverage surges
The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee finally held a hearing on reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act a couple of weeks ago. TRIA — established in 2002 and renewed for seven-years in 2007 — is set to expire on Dec. 31. Many in the industry — including the PIA — want a permanent law and not a series of extensions.
