U.S. Government Hacked: It's Getting Serious Out There
It was just a matter of time. The U.S. government has been hacked. The breach is believed to have been done by the same Chinese group that has ripped off personal information from several health care firms. Their biggest coup was getting information on 80 million people — including income data and Social Security numbers — from Anthem and Premera Blue Cross.

The FBI Offers Some Cyber Security Tips
The FBI is once again investigating a cyber attack. This one hit the U.S. government and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Interior Department specifically. Officials — unofficially — are thinking China and the same group that recently attacked Anthem and Premera Blue Cross is behind the hack. The Chinese government denies culpability and points out that cyber crime is illegal in China.

ObamaCare: Not Working for Those Needing it
This story's focus is California. It's one state. Can what is happening in California be applied to other states? While we can't say definitely, the odds are long that it is being repeated elsewhere. The statistics come from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. It says nine of 10 enrollees in California's ObamaCare exchange Covered California are getting a subsidy to help them pay for their health insurance.

NFIP Head: Flood & Insurer Disconnect
Brad Kieserman headed the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) for four months. He decided to take a better position at the Red Cross. Last week, Kieserman took some parting shots as he leaves the NFIP. And those shots are aimed squarely at the Write Your Own (WYO) program.

When Placing Professional Liability, Don't Be the One to Make the 'Error or Omission'

As producers look to place coverage for their clients, there is a good chance that professional liability could be one of the exposures needing attention. When most agency sales staff think of professional liability (aka errors and omissions), the following classes of professional business come to mind: travel agents, real estate agents, lawyers, medical professionals, accountants and others. While these the more common, there are over 100 additional professional occupations including appraisers, engineers, pharmacists, court reporters, funeral directors, speech pathologists, consultants, therapists and teachers that have a professional liability exposure.

Driving: Aggressive to Progressive to Distracted
Aggressive driving is something — admit it — we all do. Sometimes we're late for work, or for an appointment, or to get home. Or there's an accident that slows us down. Any number of things can cause us to step a bit harder on the gas pedal. More aggressive driving can get us back on track or get us on time. But sometimes it can get us in trouble. It's the getting us in trouble part that is the big concern.

ObamaCare, the Republicans and the Supreme Court
Later this month, the U.S. Supreme Court is going to announce its decision on whether the Affordable Care Act subsidies are being legally applied. The law — as written — says the states can award the subsidies but it makes no mention of the federal government.
