We're in month seven of 2017 and already insurance experts are talking net losses. The quarterly ISO and Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) report on income and losses is negative.
It says the first quarter of 2017 net income after taxes dropped 42.2% to $7.7 billion. In 2016 the net income was $13.4 billion so the drop is significant and the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2012.

Sen. Ricardo Lara and the California Nurse's Association wanted the California Legislature to implement a single-payer health care system. The cost estimate — $400 billion a year.
That's an estimate. Some experts say that's a low number considering Lara and the nurses said their system will take care of the health care of anyone — legal or illegal — in California. The idea set off conservatives and ignited a war of words among the state's Democrats.

The Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposition Insurance Corporation (FDIC) are charged with making sure banks and the insurance companies designated as significantly important financial institutions (SIFI) put together a plan to unwind safely if they get into deep financial waters. Eight of the nation's largest banks submitted what the Fed and the FDIC are calling living wills. Now regulators from both will look at those documents to make sure the plans will really work.

And those deaths are climbing at an even faster rate lately because of distracted driving and opioid abuse. The report's data comes from the average number of years between claims, the claims likelihood when compared to the national average and the hard braking numbers per 1,000 miles driven.
