Independent agents drawn to tablet applications
Many independent insurance agents say that tablet devices are going to be more important in the next couple of years — particularly for sales presentations and accessing carrier-based training. This is among the many findings in a new national survey of agents conducted by Channel Harvest Research. The national survey of agents on their attitudes regarding carriers — on a wide range of issues — was sponsored by Insurance Journal.

know the exchange — or marketplace as
the administration wants them called — is
the biggest Obamacare failure to date.
Obamacare: 2 courts, 2 decisions, no confusion
You've all heard the decision. One appeals
court — a three-judge panel — ruled the
Medicaid subsidies used to help the poor
purchase their Obamacare health insurance in
the 36 states that are using the federal
government's HealthCare.gov exchange are
The Affordable Care Act states that states can offer the help. The federal government is
not mentioned therefore the court says the subsidies are illegal.

Obamacare: The nation's highest and lowest number of uninsureds
When the Affordable Care Act was passed in 2010,
supporters — including President Barack Obama —
promised it would lower the number of us without health
insurance. According to statistics compiled by the financial
social network WalletHub — and based on data from the
Kaiser Family Foundation — it worked somewhat and the
uninsured rate dropped nationwide by 3.5 percent from 17.72
to 14.22 percent.

Weekly Industry News received comment on a
story we did on wildfires. It was sent to us from Karl
Newman of the Northwest Insurance Council.
Your PIA West wildfire story, "The West is on Fire," is
informative, well-written and rightly emphasizes
personal responsibility. The tragic loss of more than
200 homes in Washington and Oregon in July
and the negative impact on people and communities,
highlights the need to help others avoid future losses
TRIA update: An uncertain future in the House
Fairly recently, the U.S. Senate passed a
reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act. While
it's not supported completely by the PIA or other insurance
associations and groups, the Senate version is something the
industry can accept.

What InfoSec can learn from the insurance industry
Banks are robbed in different ways these days. Putting a gun in a teller's face with the inevitable ensuing police chases is very risky compared to remotely conducted Internet heists, which often are more profitable, too.
The problem is, experience-led security isn't the easiest to achieve in the internet era.
Mosquitos: A bit about the bite
First of all, mosquitos don't bite. They suck. And, according to experts, some people seem to be immune to their "bite." Mosquitos like 1 out of every 5 people. So, if you're being bit — or
sucked — regularly, then you're one of those not immune. But why?
Insurance industry joins taxis in fight against Uber, Lyft
The Whittier Daily News
Travelers and bar-hoppers used to taxi to their destinations. Now many "Uber" to where they want to go. But the dirt-cheap fares of the ride-sharing services that appeal to so many patrons could be coming to an end as two Assembly bills that would regulate Uber, Lyft and similar services work their way through the state Senate.
It's easy to fake your way to Obamacare subsidies
No surprise. Obamacare is under attack again.
This time its because of a General Accounting
Office investigation. The GAO had
individuals go undercover to test the system. The secret shopper program created 18 fictitious
scenarios and applied through the federal exchange by phone, online and in person. They submitted fake identification, citizenship data and falsified income. All but one
were approved and given Medicaid health insurance subsidies on the exchange.
CNN/ORC International's very interesting poll
If you haven't seen this one yet, CNN and ORC International conducted an interesting poll and in it asked if the November 2012 election were held today, who would you vote for President Barack Obama or Mitt Romney. Romney would have won — and easily.
