Western Wildfires: Still Out of Control
It's an ongoing story. Fires are everywhere in the West and in most cases the fires are still out of control. At the time this story is being written there are 64 fires — some of them involving hundreds of square miles — in the PIA Western Alliance states of Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. There are 16 fires in Washington, 11 in Oregon, 17 in California and 17 in Idaho. Fires are also burning in Nevada and Montana. That's a lot of fire and it's created dangerous air quality conditions all over the West.

Talking Katrina: A Decade to Think
On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina — which hit category 5 in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico — slammed into Louisiana and Texas. When it hit land Katrina had fallen to a category 3. That's fortunate. As you know and remember, Katrina caused $41 billion in property and casualty insurance losses and millions more in uninsured losses. It is the most expensive catastrophe in insurance history. Marsh just released a report called 10 Years After Hurricane Katrina: Lessons in Preparedness, Response, and Resiliency. It tracks the changes Katrina and its cousins Hurricane Ike and Superstorm Sandy made in the business.

Thielke became a television legend and quite popular doing Vern Fonk Insurance commercials between 1995 and 2010. As a tribute, television commercials are being repeated now on Seattle area television stations and cable. Thielke died last week at age 50 after a long battle with cancer.

Sometimes even doing everything right doesn’t get you the results you want.

Focusing on GEICO and Progressive, YouGov Brand Index says the dollars spent have actually shown a decrease in brand awareness and not an increase.
