Western Wildfires: What's Next?
The total number of fires burning this fire season is down. And down quite a bit. Some would say that's good news. But the acreage burned is in record setting territory. Hundreds of homes and other structures have been destroyed. Worse, 13 firefighters have died in the blazes. And the fire season isn't done.

Fires in the West: How Bad is it?
The statistics say 2015 is the worst fire season on record. Or at least it's close. There aren't as many fires this year compared to the past, but the fires are much more devastating. Hundreds of homes and businesses and other structures have been destroyed. Worse, 13 firefighters lost their lives battling blazes in the West in 2015. It's bad and experts say it's going to get worse before it gets better.

NW Insurance Council Names New President
Northwest Insurance Council President Karl Newman resigned after 16-years in the position. He's moving to the PIA Washington/Alaska and PIA Oregon/Idaho member company the Washington Surveying & Rating Bureau as its new president and CEO. His last day will be October 2nd.

Overcoming Procrastination
We all do a little bit of procrastinating. Some tasks just don't appeal to us and we avoid them. Avoidance ranges from mild disdain to avoiding the task like the plague. In some cases we go through gyrations and avoidance techniques that are even more complicated and time consuming than if we just did the job. We joke about procrastination. There's an Internet saying floating about these days that says, "Procrastinators unite ... tomorrow!" But for some procrastination is a serious problem.

Cyber Extortion: A Growing Danger
The Ashley Madison hacking and the release of the personal data of 33 million of the affair and sex-seeking website points out a growing danger: cyber extortion. As you remember, the hackers demanded the website's owners take it down. They refused and the names — 9.7 gigabytes worth — were released. Cyber hacking expert Jody Westby of Global Cyber Risk said, "Having the data stolen and (the threat of it being) disclosed is what's behind cyber extortion. It's 'pay us, and we will give the data back,' and they (the extortionists) keep their word."

A Post Labor Day Statistic: Insurance Employment
The July insurance and financial sector unemployment rate — says the Bureau of Labor Statistics — is 2.1%. That's down from June's 2.4%. Breaking it down a bit, employment jumped by 17,000 in July and in the last year it is up 156,000.
