Pet insurance: The hottest new employee benefit
It's open enrollment season. That's the time when we struggle to figure out how our health insurance has changed and how other employment benefits are different, better or gone. That said, the Hartville Pet Insurance Group did a survey on pet insurance at the annual meeting of the Society for Human Resource Management. The topic was benefits and specifically new benefits. Obamacare by the numbers: More insured, states with the least improvement
Weekly Industry News recently did a story on the states that saw the most improvement in getting the uninsured health insurance via the Affordable Care Act. Now, we take a look at the states with the highest uninsured rate improvement since Obamacare became law. But first, the goal of the Affordable Care Act is to reduce and eventually eliminate the number of uninsured in the United States. California earthquake: Governor signs EQ insurance legislation
In the wake of the Napa, California, earthquake, this is legislation that makes sense — or at least it makes sense to the California Legislature. California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed Assembly Bill 2064 into law. Currently, insurers providing residential property insurance must notify the insured that earthquake insurance is available. The time of purchase is the only time the insurer is required to make that notification.

Cyberbreach: Surviving an ongoing problem
Home Depot is the latest firm to suffer a massive data breach and now says the credit and debit card data of about 60 million people who shopped with the company has been stolen. This breach — along with the others we've seen in the last few years — shows that companies must take steps to protect themselves. Cyberinsurance is the first step. Many of us sell this kind of insurance but few possess it.

Big data — a big deal
The term "big data" is tossed around a lot these days. Nongeeks may need a definition so before we go farther one is in order. Surprise! Idahoans the nation's rudest drivers
If pushed, most of us would say the rudest drivers are found in the nation's biggest cities. That just makes sense. Surprise. It does and it doesn't. Two of the rudest driving states in the union are in the West. And a bigger surprise: one of them is the PIA Western Alliance state of Idaho. And Idaho has the nation's rudest drivers.
