TRIA renewal: Not looking good
PIA National reports the long-term renewal of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act is not likely to happen by end of the year. The November election has changed the makeup of Congress and current leadership isn't looking at anything long term. What we're now hearing is a temporary re-authorization to keep it from expiring. When the new Congress is installed in January, a new direction will be pursued.

AIG and Greenberg suit in judge's hands: Decision expected this spring
The case is Maurice "Hank" Greenberg and Starr International's suit against the U.S. government over the 2008 bailout of AIG. It is almost done. Two-months of testimony has concluded. Both sides have until Feb. 9 to submit conclusions of law. Final arguments will happen sometime in March.

Obama administration new rules for navigators hurt agents, brokers
The Department of Health and Human Services wants to change a bunch of Affordable Care Act rules in 2016. Typical of government the changes are many, many pages in length — 324-pages to be exact — and one is really bad news for agents and brokers.

Insurance's top advertisers
We are independent insurance agents. Direct writers are not exactly popular with us. That said, it's almost impossible not to love the Geico television commercials. They're very creative and in most cases, hilarious. And we see a lot of them. Maybe that's why they're so popular.

Insurers: Consumers pretty satisfied with P&C
Reasonably satisfied. That's the best description of how consumers view property and casualty insurers according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Though scores are down, P&C insurers scored OK. Take all insurers and put them into a basket and the satisfaction drops and the report said most are mostly not happy.

Small-business employees most loyal
Baylor University researchers recently took a look at business and employee loyalty. The study is called Small, Local and Loyal: How firm attributes affect workers' organizational commitment. University sociology department doctoral student Katie Halbesleben helped with the study. She said it found small, locally-owned businesses do better than larger businesses with their employees.

  • Customer Service Representative of the Year
  • Young Insurance Professional of the Year

The deadline for nominations is Jan. 23.
