President's Message: OVOC is turning 30!

Next year — 2015 — will be OVOC's 30th birthday. A significant milestone in anyone's life, even bigger when you stop to think about where we came from. In 1985, OVOC was established with the idea of allowing PMs an opportunity to meet, network and educate themselves. Our first President was David Curling, the first (official) meeting was held on March 27, 1985, and we had 54 members. Since then we've grown to 2100 members and we run more than 30 events a year. 2014 saw OVOC's 14th Symposium with 424 attendees including 40 from outside our chapter boundaries. OVOC is an incredible success story and one we look forward to celebrating with you in 2015.

As an active participant in OVOC events, you've likely noticed some changes over the last few months. We've taken a very hard look at the activities the chapter engages in and made some tough decisions. Due to low attendance, we eliminated the breakfast sessions. We are continue to evaluate the best learning opportunities for our members, and are open to your suggestion. We've refocused our lunch sessions and our Saturday seminars for the rest of the year. Networking events are being added as are some special evening activities to attract old and new faces. We're making moves towards bringing more programs to you via webinar, and are holding events in more areas of our boundaries like the Oct. 23 networking event in Kingston.

New committees are being struck to take on initiatives which mean challenging new volunteer opportunities. We've begun engaging new sponsors to deliver member-only benefits and continue to increase the benefit of membership every day. We have a solid roadmap of where we want to go over the next few years and a strategy that will help take us there. Keep your eye on the website and our weekly newsletter the Leader as we begin to announce all our changes. It's an exciting time to be a member of OVOC!
