PMI OVOC Lunch on '7 Habits of Highly Successful Consultants'

We had another successful lunch event on Nov. 26 with over 55 in attendance to hear Sean Murphy from AHA (A Hundred Answers) deliver an engaging presentation on "Consulting 101: The Seven Habits of Highly Successful Consultants."

Drawing upon his 20 years as a consultant and the lessons learned, and referencing thought leadership in this area, Sean provided a framework of good consulting practices and focused on how to analyze information to construct recommendations, and how to develop, sustain and apply good communication, observation and character analysis abilities. Many in the room listening to Sean would agree that a large portion of the good consulting practices that Sean had shared can also be applied to our everyday work.

PMI OVOC Members Networking with Hops

On Nov. 21 several members of PMI OVOC got together at the ClockTower Brew Pub in the Glebe to network and "talk shop." In between introductions and swapping of business cards one of ClockTower's brewmasters gave a presentation on beer making. The brewmaster explained how different beers are made and members enjoyed a sampling of three popular ClockTower beers. The brewmaster gave the members a surprise sampling of a yet-to-be-launched special beer which was very well received by the room.

Attendees indicated that they enjoyed the casual atmosphere and commented on how the event balanced both business networking and fun.

From service to strategy: The IT project management journey
Historically, the role of IT in project management has been a frustrating one. Through necessity, all too often IT has tended to operate within its own silo. Vast amounts of resource have been injected into service delivery and troubleshooting. IT project managers have dealt with the ongoing challenge of resolving conflicting priorities, operating to limited budgets and meeting multiple isolated demands.
