The regulatory, administrative and financial challenges radiology practices face are more complex than ever.
In-house billing programs often lack the expertise to address new mandates; are expensive to staff, train and maintain. Also, many local, regional and national billing companies don't have the internal resources, technology and capabilities to operate independently in today's environment.

Medicare revises readmissions penalties — Again
Kaiser Health News

As a result, Medicare has slightly lessened its readmissions penalties for 1,246 hospitals as part of its new program pressuring hospitals to ensure patients stay healthy after they leave.

Give patients what they want: Trust, compassion

Tools a must for troubleshooting healthcare IT
Healthcare IT systems are not plug and play, and they never will be. As a result, healthcare imaging and IT professionals need to master the use of tools such as test systems, simulators, validators, sniffing software and test datasets to ensure data integrity. For a number of reasons, many healthcare imaging and IT professionals have to deal with troubleshooting, testing and validating connectivity and interoperability.
Emerging practice models in radiology: Patient-centered Imaging
How can a specialty with very little patient interaction built into its workflow improve its service to patients? As an emerging practice model, patient-centered radiology has a nice ring to it, but as Greg Thomson, CPA, executive vice president with Medical Management Professionals, noted, "This represents a major cultural leap for radiology. Radiologists have long had multiple customers — including referring physicians and hospitals — along with patients, and because they often do not interact with patients, their focus has been on the referring physicians, not the patients. It is a mindset shift for the specialty."
