Imaging managers more optimistic about growth
Diagnostic Imaging (registration required)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Medical imaging managers still don't expect reimbursement rates to improve, but they were a bit more optimistic about the growth of study volumes. In the latest installment of the Medical Imaging Confidence Index, co-developed by The MarkeTech Group LLC and AHRA: The Association for Medical Imaging Management, medical imaging managers reported a slight uptick in their confidence about growing radiology study volumes. AR: Talk is not cheap — the payoff and costs of patient communication
Health Imaging    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When patients are asked how they prefer to receive radiology results — either from their referring physician or directly from the radiologist — they seem to want things both ways. A recent survey has shown that about three quarters of patients prefer to hear results through the traditional model, from the referring physician, but a nearly equal proportion expect their results to come from the experts at image interpretation, according to a study published in the June issue of Academic Radiology. Vendor-neutral archive use in PACS projected to surge
Aunt Minnie (registration required)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
While only 5.4 percent of the 1.4 billion new radiology studies captured by PACS worldwide were stored by vendor-neutral archives in 2011, VNAs are projected to store 31 percent of new studies worldwide by 2016, according to a new report. Healthcare providers are increasingly implementing VNAs to consolidate storage, thereby reducing PACS data migration costs and enabling better data mining and data sharing across departments. More

Study: Insurers to lose $1 trillion if health law struck down
The Hill    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

That figure equals about $1 trillion, or about one-half percent of the projected U.S. gross domestic product over eight years, the report said. The $1 trillion in new revenue would come from the law's expansion of Medicaid and from subsidies to individuals purchasing insurance. More

Data trove may shed light on health-care uncertainties
Washington Post    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
How much do hospitals and doctors actually charge insurers for their services? How much and which of those services are privately-insured patients using? And, most significantly, what drives changes in health-care use, costs and total spending? They are among the most vexing questions in American health care. And a recently amassed trove of data from insurance companies could soon shed new light on them. More

Study: Health care costs on rise
Politico    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A new study could pose a challenge to the basic premise of President Barack Obama's approach to controlling health costs — that spending will come down if doctors don't give patients as much unnecessary medical care.
