Non-radiologists — physicians or otherwise — with on-site imaging services are two-and-half times more likely to order imaging than clinicians with no financial interest in imaging, says a study published in the July edition of the Journal of the American College of Radiology. The MEDLINE data-based meta-analysis, led by Ramsey K. Kilani, M.D. of the Duke University Medical School in Durham, N.C., included five studies considering nearly 77 million episodes of care. More

Imaging cuts removed from Free Trade Agreement act

Provisions for imaging cuts stipulated in the pending United States-South Korea Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act were removed by the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. The provisions would have increased the required equipment utilization rate for advanced diagnostic imaging equipment services, or the rate at which Medicare assumes equipment is in use at the average facility, from 75 percent to 90 percent.
