Giddings' Masek headlines All-Central Texas baseball team Austin American-Statesman Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
Last summer, Trey Masek had a tough decision to make. Football season was only a few months away, and Giddings—with 12 starters back—was poised to contend for a state championship. And Masek—the quarterback who had rushed for 631 yards and accounted for 10 touchdowns during the Buffaloes' five-game run in the 2008 playoffs—was expected to lead them. Instead of splitting teams into small school and big school divisions at the start of the playoffs, 1A and 2A teams were split before the season. That way teams knew where they were headed in their respective playoff brackets before the first snap. But only two teams would advance to the playoffs from each district.
