Things to know about the 2010 Coaching School and Convention

We are very excited to be back in San Antonio this year. The City of San Antonio and Trinity University have embraced our convention and will be providing us with great venues for all the activities that will be taking place, July 18 through July 21. This year will be the 78th Annual Convention of the Texas High School Coaches Association as we celebrate the 80th and anniversary of the Coaches Association. More



Lake Travis beats DeSoto to claim championship

Conner Floyd caught four touchdowns to lead Lake Travis to a 42-39 victory over DeSoto in the championship game of the Division I passing tournament in College Station. It was the first-ever tournament title for Lake Travis, which has won three straight 11-man football championships. More

Legacy a young school brimming with talent

Two have already committed to Big 12 schools. Another is on his way to Boise State and at least four more are likely to end up at Football Bowl Subdivision schools. Not bad for a school that opened its doors in 2007, and didn't field a varsity football team until 2008. "Yeah, I'd say it's pretty amazing really," Mansfield Legacy coach Chris Melson said. "It's a shock. These kids have really put a lot of hard work in with these coaches. They've really developed. They've come a long way in a hurry." More



Chester football drops to six-man

A majority vote last week resulted in Chester becoming the area's first six-man team since 2003. Chester ISD superintendent John Kent said the school will play six-man football for the next two seasons. The Chester ISD school board will reassess if the school remains in six-man or returns to 11-man in February 2012, which is when the University Interscholastic League does its latest realignment. UIL rules prohibit high school football coaches from participating in their program's 7-on-7 activities. Arlington Lamar coach Trent Fuller is aware of these restrictions and is, in a sense, relieved by them. You can rest assured, though, that his handprints are all over the blueprints to Lamar's summer sport. It started during spring workouts when Fuller, who is entering his first season as Lamar's coach after four seasons as the offensive coordinator at Arlington Bowie, began to put the spread offense he used with the Volunteers into the Vikings' system. Tabor brings strongs credentials as coach, teacher

The Mineral Wells ISD school board voted to approve Ty Tabor as the new Mineral Wells boys head basketball coach. He replaces David Breazeale, who after three seasons coaching the Rams accepted the head coaching position at Granbury. Mineral Wells ISD Athletic Director Chuck Lawrence told board members Tabor rose out of a pool of 35-45 applicants. More
