US named 'most heavily armed country'

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report said. U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. More

The FBI performed a record number of instant background checks on would-be firearm buyers in 2011 as Americans went on an apparent gun-buying spree, according to new government data. The FBI said it fielded nearly 16.5 million queries from firearms sellers last year, checking that customers buying guns did not have criminal records or other red flags that made them ineligible to purchase weapons. ATF reportedly relieves 'Fast and Furious' managers

Gun Rights Examiner and Sipsey Street Irregulars received information that three of the prime Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives players in the "Fast and Furious" gunwalking scandal have been relieved of duties. These three were the recipients of an email from ATF Associate Chief Counsel Barry Orlow, advising them and other Bureau attorneys of Gun Rights Examiner's "Open Letter to Senate Judiciary Committee staff on 'Project Gunwalker.'" Late-season dove hunting often a wide-open field

There are few certainties in the dove hunting world, particularly in the late season when most hunters are more concerned about whether they will find a new firearm, knife or other outdoor gear under their Christmas trees. With the late season running through Jan. 23 in the South Zone and Jan. 8 in the North and Central zones, those who venture out into the fields and fence rows in search of mourning and white-winged doves can be certain they will not have a lot of company.
