Obama unveils $500 million gun violence package
The Associated Press via MyWay    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Braced for a fight, President Barack Obama unveiled the most sweeping proposals for curbing gun violence in two decades, pressing a reluctant Congress to pass universal background checks and bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines like the ones used in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. CCRKBA: This is about the 2nd Amendment and they know it
The Examiner    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has called out the White House and the gun control groups in a scathing press release that said, among other things, "calling the gun prohibition lobby a 'gun safety' group is tantamount to suggesting that Ted Bundy was an advocate for battered women." CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb reacted to statements made by Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign, who told reporters covering his meeting with Vice President Joe Biden's 'gun violence' task force that this "is not a debate around the Second Amendment." Resistance builds for Obama anti-gun agenda; Inslee removes moderate mask
The Examiner    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Despite President Barack Obama's attempt to smear opponents of his gun prohibition scheme — announced recently with children as political props — as unreasonable and uncaring, resistance is building in the firearms community and on Capitol Hill. This column discussed the gloves-off reaction from the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and National Rifle Association, and Sen. Charles Grassley, the Iowa Republican who launched the first inquiry into Operation Fast and Furious, raised that thorny issue again. More

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

What makes a gun an assault rifle?
Fox News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
VideoBrief President Barack Obama announced support for a new ban on military-style assault weapons, further frustrating critics who say the term itself is misleading and based on cosmetics — not carnage or crime. "The number one myth is these are machine guns. They're not machine guns. They're semi-auto, meaning I pull the trigger one time, I get one bullet," said Jeff Serdy of AJI Sporting Goods near Phoenix. More

Texas legislator proposes unique bill
The Daily O'Collegian    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
State Rep. Steve Toth from Texas has announced his plans to file the Firearms Protection Act. The act would make any federal laws that may be passed by Congress or the President through executive order regarding the ban of semi-automatic weapons or high capacity magazines illegal in the state of Texas. The act would also call for felony criminal charges to be filed against any federal official that attempts to enforce any new gun control legislation. Rep. Toth stated that an attempt to enforce a federal gun ban would result in a $50,000 fine and up to five years in prison. More

New York passes first US gun control bill since Newtown, Conn., massacre
CBS News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
VideoBrief New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the toughest gun control law in the nation and the first since the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, calling for a tougher assault weapons ban and provisions to try to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill who make threats. Cuomo pushed hard for the bill, which passed the Senate during the night and easily passed the Assembly earlier. "I'm proud to be a New Yorker," Cuomo said. "It's not just the first bill, it's the best bill." More

Obama using gun issue to advance health law
The Washington Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
President Barack Obama is using the national debate over gun violence to push for further action on his health care law, including insisting on the kind of mental health coverage states must provide under their Medicaid programs. Obama, unveiling his gun proposals barely a month after the deadly school shooting in Newtown, Conn., will make it clear that his health law, known as the Affordable Care Act, allows doctors to ask patients whether they have guns in their homes and will tell them they are able to report any threats of violence they hear to police. Congressman Steve Stockman reminds you to have a happy 'Gun Appreciation Day' on Jan. 19    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Chick-fil-A Day will seem like just a bunch of tiny morsels next to the tidal wave of conservative protest coming this — if Texas congressman Steve Stockman has his way. Stockman recently endorsed — and pushed out on social media — the idea of "Gun Appreciation Day" on Jan. 19 a day before President Obama formally is sworn in for a second term as president and two days before the inaugural ceremonies at the Capitol. The best deep-woods deer cartridges
Grand View Outdoors    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
What deer cartridges work in the deep woods? Actually, all of them. A .300 WSM will kill a deer in the deep woods just as easy as it will across your neighbor's big cornfield. Is it the most perfectly suited cartridge to the task? Not so. You see, most .300 WSM rifles are moderately heavy, long-barreled bolt-actions. They're perfectly suited to hunting a diverse countryside, but in the deep woods, you don't need all that reach, muzzle blast or recoil. More
