American guns and Mexican violence
National Review    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
By Sen. John Cornyn: The debate over U.S. gun laws and Mexican drug violence brings to mind Mark Twain's famous quip about lies, damned lies and statistics. In a recent editorial, the Washington Post blamed American policies for exacerbating the bloodshed, pointing out that "70 to 80 percent of the traceable guns seized in Mexico can be tracked to the United States." The key word there is "traceable." More

Ammoland    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder recently appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to answer questions about his role in the deadly "Fast and Furious" gun-running scandal. However, instead of answers, Congress got more defiance, more arrogance and more wasted time with an attorney general who clearly feels no sense of obligation to the American people or our rule of law. Drought take its toll on deer herd
San Angelo Standard-Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The West Texas deer season wrapped up recently and, as expected, it was the worst season in recent memory. The drought of 2011 had a devastating impact on the deer herd and forced hunters, guides and taxidermists to scramble to make the best of a bad situation. Deer numbers were way down and fawns didn't survive. Antler growth was stunted in bucks. The business of deer hunting was bad as the cost of deer feed went up while the quality of the herd went down. Worms are getting the birds
San Angelo Standard-Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A killer may be hiding in the bushes and grasslands of Texas. Since 2006, the state's bobwhite quail population has seen a 90 percent decline and while no one is certain why it's happening or what is responsible, researchers might be closing in on the cause. If so, it might be just in time, because quail may be on the brink of becoming "recreationally extinct," meaning there are too few birds to shoot, says Dr. Dale Rollins of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service.
