USA Shooting's Scherer leads TCU to NCAA championship

For the second time in three years, TCU has captured the NCAA Rifle Championship Title. Under the direction of coach Karen Monez, 1979 World Champion in Air Rifle, the all-women's rifle team overcame a five-point deficit in the second day of competition to beat defending national champion Kentucky. Rifle shooters from the top eight NCAA teams and individual qualifiers competed on the campus of Ohio State University. More

'National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012' introduced in Senate

U.S. Senators Mark Begich, D-Alaska, and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., introduced S. 2188, the "National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012." The bill is the Senate companion to H. R. 822, approved by the U.S. House in November. S. 2188, like H.R. 822, would allow any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed handgun in any other state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes. ATF's No. 2: Agency mistakenly used drug strategy in Operation Fast and Furious

The No. 2 person at ATF says a key mistake in the controversial Operation Fast and Furious was that "a narcotics based strategy was applied to a firearms trafficking investigation." Tom Brandon, who stepped in last October as ATF's deputy director as part of an effort to clean house after the failed Operation Fast and Furious came to the public's attention, explained that while drug agents sometimes let drugs and money walk to further an investigation, it's not good to do the same for gun probes. At least $500,000 raised for quail by Park Cities Quail

An estimated half a million dollars for quail research was raised at the 2012 dinner and auction of Park Cities Quail in Dallas. The event at the Frontiers of Flight Museum near Dallas Love Field attracted more than 1,000 people who spent an average of $380 to attend. They opened their checkbooks for raffle, silent and live auction items. More

Oklahoma Senate sends House open carry measure

The Oklahoma Senate passed a measure that would allow for the open carrying of guns. Senate Bill 1733, by Sen. Anthony Sykes, R-Moore, heads to the House after securing Senate approval by a vote of 34-9. Sykes said the measure would allow those who have a concealed-carry permit to openly carry a gun or carry concealed. More

Arkansas teen becomes first female to win World Championship Turkey Calling Division

Emily Oliver of Crossett, Ark., made history when she became the first female to win a division in the World Championship Turkey Calling Contest at the Mobile, Ala., Convention Center. The 18-year-old freshman, studying wildlife biology at the University of Arkansas-Monticello, used a combination of mouth and friction calls to win the amateur division, finishing ahead of nine other callers. Attention hunters: Suppressors legal for hunting non-nuisance animals?

Hunters in Texas may soon be able to purchase suppressors for more than just hunting feral hogs and other nuisance animals. Texas Parks and Wildlife has proposed some amendments to the State's Hunting Proclamation. These amendments would expand the use of legally obtained suppressors on firearms while hunting non-nuisance animals such as deer and other game. More
