How to clean your over-and-under shotgun
By Irwin Greenstein
The best way to ensure the longevity and performance of your over-and-under shotgun is to keep it clean. That might sound like an onerous chore, but you can effectively clean an over-and-under in less than 20 minutes on your kitchen counter. The biggest culprits that foul your shotgun are residues from the shotgun shells. Lead, plastic and gas residues accumulate inside the barrel, potentially affecting the patterns of your ammunition and accuracy of your shots. Meanwhile, the receiver tends to collect powder deposits inside that build up over time.

House panel weighs private property, gun rights
Texas Tribune
With the Legislature almost certain to loosen restrictions on how and where people can carry handguns, a House committee recently considered streamlining the process for businesses to ban guns on their private property. House Bill 2405 by state Rep. Poncho Nevárez, D-Eagle Pass, would make it possible for any business owner with an internet connection and printer to obtain a "no guns" sign.

See if the Octane is right for you.

At the range: DRD Tactical CDR-15 'Suitcase Gun'
Guns & Ammo
At first glance, you might think the CDR-15 rifle from DRD Tactical is just another AR-15 with a fancy paint job. It looks and functions much like a standard mil-spec rifle, but take a closer look — into a suitcase with custom-cut foam compartments — and you'll see its secret exhibited in a portable carbine with a quick takedown barrel design. In fact, the major upper components of the CDR-15 "Suitcase Gun" can be assembled or disassembled in under one minute with your bare hands — no tools are necessary.

A .22-caliber rifle not best bear defense
Daily Inter Lake
A Ferndale man convicted last week of illegally poaching three young grizzly bears on his property may be lucky, and not just because he survived the encounter, but because of his choice of weaponry — a .22-caliber rifle. Sean Albrite, a firearms salesman at Snappy Sport Senter, was not impressed with the man's choice of a small-caliber weapon to bring down the big bruins. "If you're carrying a .22 for self-defense against a bear, that's the most ignorant thing I could ever think of," Albright said. A .22-caliber bullet typically won’t drop a bear right away, said state Fish, Wildlife and Parks bear expert Tim Manley, and although they may die, it's usually after a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering.
