Poll: Most Americans back gun lobby, right to use deadly force

Most Americans support the right to use deadly force to protect themselves — even in public places — and have a favorable view of the National Rifle Association, the main gun-lobby group, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed. The online survey showed that 68 percent, or two out of three respondents, had a favorable opinion of the NRA. Eighty-two percent of Republicans saw the gun lobbying group in a positive light as well as 55 percent of Democrats. More

TCU sophomore Catherine Green finished her National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships career on a high note — two gold medals and a complete women's rifle sweep. She won the Women's 50m Rifle Three Position event with 1252.7 total points. Green shot 1158 match points to take a 10-point lead on the competition. She followed it up with 94.7 points in the final. Thirty-two USA Shooting Team Members are primed to compete in the "London Prepares" International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup when action gets underway Thursday, April 19, from London. More than 800 competitors from 97 countries are set to participate in the event, more than doubling the amount that will compete at the London Olympic Games, when 390 shooters will have a start on the lines of the Royal Artillery Barracks range. Shooters of every class have the opportunity to be recognized annually in the National Class Rank List, and the 2012 list for the 2011 shooting year has just been announced. The top 10 shooters for every class, Master through E, are designated. In calculating National Class Rank, points are based on placement in class in events, the number of shooters in a class and the number of shooters in the event. More

Firearms industry helps lead economic recovery

The National Shooting Sports Foundation recently released a newly commissioned report detailing double-digit gains in jobs and other data showing the industry has been a leader in the nation's economic recovery. Firearms industry members were briefed on such remarkable statistics as the 30.6 percent increase in jobs between 2008 and 2011, a 66.5 percent increase in economic impact and a 66.5 percent increase in federal taxes paid by industry companies. At Shoot Straight in Orlando, Fla., employees say more people are taking a shot at a owning a gun, thanks to Uncle Sam.
