Deputy Director resigns from ATF in wake of critical report

ATF Deputy Director William Hoover has resigned, just days after a congressional report on Operation Fast and Furious sharply criticized him and four other ATF officials for the botched gun-trafficking operation. Hoover officially retired from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives last week, according to two senior ATF officials. More

    NRA asks to intervene in federal lead-ban lawsuit

    The National Rifle Association has asked to intervene in a lawsuit seeking to force the agency to ban the use of lead in ammunition. The NRA, joined by Safari Club International, claims its members "who use lead-based ammunition in their hunting and shooting sports activities will be impaired if they are no longer able" to do so.     In its Aug. 6 issue, Time magazine Managing Editor Richard Stengel demonstrated how misinformed he is about both firearms owners and modern sporting rifles (those rifles based on the AR platform) when he wrote, "And gun owners know better than anyone else that an AR-15 has little or no sporting purpose."     Hunters hoping to be ready for the start of dove season need to head to a sporting goods store or get online beginning next Wednesday and purchase a hunting or fishing license. Current-year Texas hunting and fishing licenses (except year-to-date fishing licenses) expire Aug. 31, and new licenses for 2012-2013 will go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 15. More
