Fifth Circuit upholds ban on gun sales to people under 21
Gun Reports    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Last week, an appeals court upheld a federal law that prohibits people under the age of 21 from purchasing handguns from dealers, rejecting the first challenge to the age rule since the Supreme Court recognized an individual's right to keep and bear arms. In a 3-0 ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit held that the age restriction was "consistent with a longstanding tradition of targeting select groups' ability to access and to use arms for the sake of public safety." Gun laws ring hollow with voters
USA TODAY    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
From Wayne LaPierre: What does USA TODAY's Editorial Board have in common with the majority of Americans? Not much, apparently, when it comes to effective public policy and sound politics. This newspaper bemoans a lack of debate over firearms ownership in this election, ignoring a fact that even most politicians now recognize. The vast majority of Americans treasure their constitutional freedom, and they don't trust politicians who meddle with it. More

Now he tells us!
NSSF (blog)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Recently on the campaign trail in Iowa, the president told his audience: "Trust matters. Iowa, you know me. I say what I mean and mean what I say. You could take a videotape of the things I say, (from) 10 years ago, 12 years ago, and you'd say this is the same guy." Since he insists, take a look for yourself. More

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

Report: 'Fast and Furious' failures at the top were ignored
The Washington Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Justice Department has yet to confront widespread management failures in the botched Fast and Furious gunrunning investigation or to order operational changes that would prevent future "disasters" from occurring, two senior Republican lawmakers who first questioned the federal probe said. Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Rep. Darrell E. Issa of California said the Justice Department had taken only "limited action" against lower-level managers. More

Gun 'buybacks' endanger citizens, help crooks and crooked officials
AmmoLand    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Forget that the city of Haverhill, Mass., never owned the guns in the first place, so the concept of conducting a "buyback" is a fraud right from the start. The entire business of encouraging citizens to turn in guns for "gift cards" (again a misnomer, since it's an exchange, not a present) endangers participants and can actually enable criminals. More

Obama's gun control — not working out so well in Chicago
AmmoLand    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Chicago is the gun control capital of the United States. It has long been characterized by politicians like Barack Obama who not only view concealed carry laws with disdain, but even oppose the individual right to keep and bear arms. Obama even opposed the right to use guns for self-defense in the home while he was a state senator in Illinois. More

San Antonio program offers youth introduction to hunting
Racks & Reels    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The anecdote sounds like an urban legend — inner-city youngsters from Houston go hunting for the first time, gaze up at the night sky and ask, "What are those bright twinkling things?" But after hearing it for the third time, "I can guarantee it's true," said Jerry Warden, executive director of the Texas Youth Hunting Program, which brings together people from broad demographics in hunts for white-tailed deer, turkey, feral hogs, doves, javelina, exotics, waterfowl and varmints. Migration alert: Ducks are on the move ... finally
Ducks Unlimited    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
This time of year, any rumor of a storm can get waterfowlers worked up and ready for new birds to arrive, and it seems the cold fronts that pushed their way across the northern Plains late last week finally got some ducks and geese moving south. And none too soon, as forum posters were bemoaning that this is the worst season ever, despite the fact it's only October and bird counts are at record highs. More

Prospects good for deer season
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Texas hunters should see deer in good condition and above average numbers of mature bucks when the general season kicks off Nov. 3 statewide. "Despite the drought of 2011 deer appeared to come through the season in fair shape, which I think in part is a tribute to hunters and landowners doing a better job of managing deer populations and the native habitat across the state," said Alan Cain, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department white-tailed deer program leader. Deer hunters should change tactics this season
Fort Worth Star-Telegram    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It's all about water. It is perhaps the one deciding factor that tips the scales to the right or left more than anything else on annual hunting success among deer hunters. The results produced by adequate rains last winter and last spring following a year of virtually no beneficial rains is perhaps one of the greatest examples of how hunting conditions and success rates can change over a one-year period. After decades of decline, Texas quail rebounding this year
Houston Chronicle    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
For the shrinking number of Texans to whom quail and quail hunting are hugely important, this is bittersweet. Neither quail nor quail hunting are what they were just a couple of decades ago. As recently as 20 years ago, the start of quail season was excitedly anticipated by a quarter-million or so Texans. More
