Rifle season starts off 'big' for East Texas
East Texas hunters were fortunate this year, with deer hunting season falling on the first weekend which actually felt like Fall. "Outstanding weather, harvest was probably average but what we did see harvested, we saw some really, really good quality deer, some big bucks killed." Game Warden Captain Shawn Phillips out of Lufkin says he saw a number of what many would describe as trophy bucks. "I heard of two or three 160 class bucks killed which is a phenomenal deer, so there was some really good bucks," said Phillips.

Gun training for teachers shows guns in schools still a hot issue
The Denver Post
The issue of whether teachers should be allowed to carry guns in schools is not going away anytime soon in Colorado. Soon, more than 400 educators — two-thirds of them women — from throughout the region will gather at the Centennial Gun Club for a free conceal-carry class, the largest one-day training session ever in Colorado, organizers say. While politicians are reluctant to announce any bills before the legislative session begins in January, it is expected that a measure or two that could allow teachers to carry guns in school will be introduced.

The allure of antlers
Texas Parks & Wildlife
While most hunters today primarily view white-tailed deer as a source of lean meat and trophy racks, the antlers grown and shed every year from the foreheads of bucks are more than just symmetrical (or sometimes not) calcium formations intended by nature as a means of self-defense and as a symbol of genetic quality. Since before recorded history, antlers — either taken from harvested deer or picked up after they have been shed — have comforted and benefited man as spiritual icons and cultural artifacts ranging from tools to art.

Rifles of legend
Dallas Safari Club
There are days that stand out in our mind above others, days that pass in the field and will be remembered. This was one of them. Seventy-yards away, the old bull turned and presented a quartering away broadside shot after a long morning on the spore. The hunter slid down his big double rifle and lined up on the old buffs shoulder, pressing the rear trigger. The big .577 Westley Richards boomed with authority, and the buff bucked to the shot. The old boy was dead but didn’t yet know it. Most buffalo hunts rate up there in memorable moments, but this one was special.

She picks up the custom handgun painted in her favorite colors, purple and black. Her long, black braid bounces slightly with each of the six shots she fires. Tyler hunter gets first shot at Wyoming mule deer
Tyler Morning Telegraph
Alot of hunters will see a good deer on opening day but not take the shot thinking they will see something bigger and better before the hunt is over. Hans Dorey didn’t wait, and it is a good thing because of the three people in his party hunting mule deer in Wyoming, Dorey was the only one to tag out in five days. Early this year the Tyler hunter was invited on an October hunt in northeastern Wyoming. A life-long hunter, he had hunted white-tailed deer across much of Texas, but this was his first shot at a muley.
