Poll finds 6 in 10 Americans believe guns improve home safety
More than 60 percent of Americans say having a gun in the home makes them safer, according to a new Gallup report. That number represents a two-fold increase from 2000, when only 30 percent of Americans said they felt a gun improved safety. The responses to the poll diverged greatly along political and geographical lines. Republicans were twice as likely as Democrats to say guns made them safer. Nearly 70 percent of people in the South say that guns make their homes safer, compared with just under 60 percent in the West and East.

What constitutes a trophy buck?
So far, this has been an awesome year in Texas for harvesting trophy class white tail bucks. Today, a buck that makes the Boone and Crockett book with the minimum score of 170 BC has become almost commonplace, especially on well managed ranches, many of which are high fenced, all across the state. Luke Clayton, and most veteran deer hunters, can remember not too many years ago when there were only a handful of "book" bucks taken in the state each year.

A sensor in guns tells dispatch when police officers need backup
Controversy is the fruit of unclear facts, especially when law enforcement is involved. Take the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, for example. Officials spent weeks after the incident trying to piece together exactly what happened — how many shot were fired, by whom and from where. And still we may never know what transpired with total certainty. The increased adoption of technology in law enforcement is meant to help clear up many of these questions. Dashcams, for instance, now provide evidence when eyewitness accounts and officer reports don’t jibe; they’re mandatory equipment in some states, including New Jersey. California startup Yardarm Technologies is out to take things a step further.

TSA says Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport leads a record-breaking year of firearms seizures
The Dallas Morning News
The Transportation Security Agency, which runs America’s most heavily armed blog, says its agents have been record-breaking busy this year. According to the Department of Homeland Security today, TSA agents have collected 1,892 firearms in 2014 — and that’s with two months to go in the year. And, of course, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport tops the pops. According to the TSA, 105 firearms were seized at the local airport, including this week, when someone was arrested at D/FW for carrying a weapon through security. Thirty-nine firearms have been taken off Dallas Love Field passengers in 2014.

As many as 10 million ducks migrate to Texas each year
Tyler Morning Telegraph
Although duck season is already up and running, serious hunters know the real hunting is still weeks away. It is going to take cold, harsh weather, and lots of it, starting at the Canadian border and progressively moving south to cause a massive push of ducks into Texas. If there is one thing Texas hunters have learned in recent years it’s that if it doesn’t get cold in Kansas and Oklahoma, cold enough to freeze ponds, the ducks will linger in states to the north where they have plenty of food to survive.

New Hardcore AR rifle series by Core Rifle Systems
Core Rifle Systems got its start not too long ago making straightforward, competitively-priced no-frills AR-15s in basic configurations. To some, the CORE15 series was even a little boring, another brand of M-forgery in your choice of Magpul colors. Solid, well-made, but a little boring. In the past couple of years things have changed in a big way with a wide spread of CORE15 rifles in different calibers with optional gas piston systems and the company even offers .308 Winchester ARs with its recent CORE30 series of rifles.
