NRA-ILA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Rep. Joe Barton and 75 of his colleagues in the House of Representatives recently introduced House Resolution 814 which urges the president not to sign the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. The bipartisan resolution warns that if the president signs the treaty, it will not be binding and no federal funds will be appropriated to implement it unless it has consent by the Senate and has been the subject of implementing legislation by the Congress. (A background check is mandatory prior to the purchase of any firearm at retail. Background-check statistics are indicators of sales activity.) More

It was on late Thursday afternoon, we learned that the expected vote on the Sportsmen's Act would not take place. More

FINALLY, a gun lubricant exists that can withstand the most extreme conditions.
After using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus, Floro Lavalle with Sierra Outfitters in Argentina reported cleanings were much easier, they were needed less frequently and field jamming went down to almost non-existent. While these statements may seem generic and boring, consider that they shoot on average 2000-5000 rounds per day per gun, OVER 1 MILLION ROUNDS PER YEAR, and pair that with Lavalle’s full season of using Safari Charlie Gun Lube Plus. His report was an 83% reduction in repair/replacement costs. MORE...

Hunters get better picture of deer herd with scope, camera phone
Lone Star Outdoor News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
There's a clever way to take pictures of animals in the field, and it doesn't take an expensive camera with a strong zoom to do it. With a scoped rifle and a camera phone, hunters can catch moments in the field by putting their phone to the scope; but it may take some practice to get right. "I've kind of become a photo junkie, but I don't really have a good camera," said Waxahachie resident Adrian Sanchez. "So I rest the rifle on the window and hold the butt, then I put my phone right up to the scope and slowly scoot it back until that black ring is gone." More

Average production of record-class muleys across these counties has trended upward since RMEF launched in 1984—, and the counties showing the greatest improvements are those where RMEF has helped protect and steward the greatest amounts of habitat. Cooler weather should benefit duck, deer hunters
The Dallas Morning News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Hunting seasons are mostly open now, and early reports are mixed. The heaviest participation by hunters will probably occur over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service predicted a record number of ducks this season, but unusually warm, dry weather throughout the Central Flyway slowed the early migration. Texas is at the bottom end of the flyway. The cold front that arrived certainly helped the Texas duck situation. More

6.5mm Grendel: The round the military ought to have
Shooting Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
From J. Guthrie: After almost two hours of discussing the long, tortured, and circuitous development and production history of the 6.5mm Grendel, I finally came right out and asked developer Bill Alexander if he thought the Grendel would ever get a shot at replacing the much-maligned 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. "Who knows?" Alexander asked rhetorically. "It's not about good weapons and ammunition any more, it's a political game." More
