Trade deficit hits highest level in six months

The nation's trade deficit surged in May to its highest level in six months as the global economy remained sluggish, hampering the reach of U.S. exports. The gap widened to $45 billion, from April's $40.1 billion shortfall, a 12.2 percent increase, the Commerce Department reported recently.
