Frustration grows about airports' immigration lines

As lines grow at airport customs and immigration checkpoints, the frustration among international travelers continues to swell. A trade group for the nation’s travel industry is hoping to exploit that frustration to pressure the federal government to hire more U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents to speed up those airport lines, thereby encouraging more foreign visitors.

    Travel industry adds more jobs

    Recently, the U.S. Department of Labor released its July 2011 jobs report, showing a very slight decline in the unemployment rate from 9.2 percent in June to 9.1 percent in July. All told, the U.S. economy created 117,000 jobs — far below the 217,000 that were created in April, but well above the 18,000 that were created in June.

    Hotels slowly show signs of recovery

    The U.S. hotel industry, still struggling to fill rooms with groups of business travelers, managed to have a solid first half of the year based on profits and other key indicators. InterContinental Hotels Group, the largest hotel group in the world by room numbers, recently reported a net profit of $341 million for the first half of the year, a nearly 26 percent jump from $271 million the same time last year.

    International tourists drive Disney attendance growth
