    FDA tracking proposal could require packaging line changes

    The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's medical device tracking proposal will force many manufacturers to make expensive packaging line changes. FDA proposed a unique device identification marking system, both for many individual devices and all device packaging, with some exceptions, in response to a 2007 congressional mandate. Manufacturers have been criticizing key elements of that proposal since it was announced this past summer, forcing the FDA to reconsider some of the specifics. More

    Toyota Material Handling, USA, the supplier of the number one selling lift truck in North America, celebrated the end of its 2012 philanthropic giving year with the donation of two internal combustion lift trucks to the Columbus, Ind., community. During a ceremony attended by local business leaders, TMHU President Jeff Rufener presented one ceremonial forklift key to Columbus Mayor Kristen Brown and another to United Way of Bartholomew County President Mark Stewart. Toyota forklifts are manufactured at Toyota Industrial Equipment Mfg. Inc. in Columbus. More

    Marines use forklifts to pay forward

    As a result of Toyota Material Handling's "Giving Veterans a Lift" program, one of its dealers, Toyota Lift of Minnesota, recently trained 10 Marines of the unit MWSS471 to become certified forklift operators. These individuals are applying their new skills on the job and in their community, including operating forklifts to transport and handle the collected donations for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation based out of the Minneapolis distribution center. In 2011 Marines and other Toys for Tots volunteers distributed more than 15.6 million toys nationally to more than 7.2 million children in need. More

    MAINtag beefs up its RFID offerings to meet demands in aerospace

    MAINtag, a French RFID technology firm focused on the aerospace industry, is releasing new additions to its FLYtag line of radio frequency identification tags designed to track parts on aircraft. These new tags, the company reports, are expected to meet the requirements for monitoring the maintenance and repair of aircraft parts within non-pressurized and interior cabin locations, as well as tracking the identities and expiration dates of life vests and seats. More
