Adopting lean manufacturing methods in the DC
Supply Chain Digest

Obsessive management disorder
By Harry J. Friedman
You are 12 years old, and you are with a group of friends discussing what you all might want to do together on the weekend. You seem to be dominating the conversation with ideas you think will be fun. Other kids offer up suggestions, but you push for your ideas. They finally agree, and that weekend you and your friends participate in the activities for which you lobbied. You even check to see if they are enjoying themselves and take some responsibility for the day. Ladies and gentlemen, here we have a leader, a manager, a future master of the universe. Management and leadership are compulsions, not job titles.

Robotic cartoning adds efficiency, subtracts labor costs
Healthcare Packaging
In its hometown of Levis, Canada, near Quebec City, Pharmalab Inc. has found that low unemployment rates make it sometimes difficult to find qualified personnel. To help cope with that challenge, the contract manufacturer of natural health, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products, and food supplements has switched from manual cartoning to automated robotic cartoning with the recent addition of five new MK-DLT integrated Delta 3 robotic cartoners provided by AFA Systems. Antonio Muniz with Logic Tech Pack Inc. served as a consultant and AFA agent for the project.

Police get a lift for evidence storage, handling
Material Handling & Logistics
Efficient use of storage space isn’t the exclusive domain of industrial warehouses.
